Malawian Girls rock a mobile platform founded by multi award winning artist Hazel ‘Mak’ Makunganya along side her sisters Camille Alsop and Michelle Makunganya that aims to promote, enable inspire and connect ambitious women by acting as an umbrella organisation that spotlights the achievement of Malawian women; in order inspire young Malawians to learn from successful women through our various campaigns and philanthropic work.
Amongst our achievements was our international spotlight feature on BBC Focus on Africa and our country wide sports donation program for under privileged schools\orphanages with sports equipment ie. Football kits, football boots etc donated by philanthropist Sir Bob Holt Footprints foundation with MGR.
MGR’s driving focus is to dismantle the marginalised oppressive systems that ensure Girls in Malawi remain vulnerable, oppressed, uneducated and uninspired. We believe that change will only happen if we break the cycle of dependency through leading by our moto by ‘Malawian women for Malawian women’.
Our Malawian website aims to be the first of its kind in Malawi a one stop shop for all things Malawian Girls related 'the ultimate girl power website' in order to create a platform that is Informative, Empowering and Engaging with a unique mix of content that showcase women in a positive way by controlling our narratives, ensuring that our voices are heard and celebrated. I believe there is a market for this as we have noticed that women are highly under represented in Malawian media we aim to fill that gap.
